Automotive Robot Cell

The Requirement

Body and White is a stage in the automotive manufacturing in which sheet metal components are welded together to form the vehicles body. This process is undertaken by robots which are confined to a cell. Each cell contains a series of robots that either undertakes pick-and-place or spot welding activities. Such machinery is extensively guarded and interlocked to ensure that operators and/or maintenance personnel can only enter the guarded area once all machinery is isolated and has come to rest. Guard doors are interlocked with safety gate switches such that control power to all moving parts is isolated prior to opening the actual guard doors.
